The LAV-25 featured a two-man power-operated turret armed with a 25mm M242 automatic cannon called the Chain Gun and two 7.62mm M240 machine guns.
Although there is room for six infantrymen in the rear hull compartment of the LAV-25, the Marines ultimately decided to use the vehicle as a reconnaissance vehicle instead of an armored personnel carrier. The Marine Corps received 422 LAV-25s between 1983 and 1987.
