The Centauro B1 is a tank destroyer developed by Fiat and OTO Melara at the request of the Italian Army.
This machine, in its firepower, was equal to the main battle tank Leopard 1, which was then in service in Italy. Production of the B1 began in 1990, and it entered service in 1991. In 1996, the last of the 400 Centauro was produced. The only foreign operator was Spain, which ordered 84 machines. It is worth noting that from 2000 to 2002 the US Army leased 16 Centauros. They were used to train the first crews for the Stryker MGS to gain experience operating the whee
