USS Independence (LCS-2) ("Independence", from the English independence - "independence") is a ship of the "littoral combat ship" class, which is part of the US Navy. The main ship of the series.
It was laid down on January 19, 2006, launched on May 4, 2008, accepted by the US Navy on December 18, 2009, joined the US Navy on January 19, 2010.
The design of the ship's hull is based on the principle of SWATH (a ship with a small cross-sectional area along the waterline), developed and implemented by the Austal company. The 127-meter high-speed car-passenger trimaran ferry "Benchijigua Express" previously created by the company served as the basis of the development.
