The J-15 is a carrier-based fighter aircraft being developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and 601 Institute for future PLAN aircraft carriers.
This aircraft was rumored to be a semi-stealth variant, however later reports indicate that the aircraft is based on the Russian Su-33 and equipped with domestically produced radars and weapons.
An unfinished Su-33 prototype, the T-10K-3, was purchased from Ukraine sometime in 2001 and is said to have been scrutinized, with development of the J-15 immediately following. Although the J-15 is structurally based on the Su-33, it is equipped with avionics from the J-11B program.
