During the Winter War, it became obvious that the army needed a tank capable of fighting pillboxes and other enemy fortifications. This is how the first experimental KV tanks appeared with a 152-mm M-10 howitzer installed in an enlarged turret. At the beginning of 1941, the tank received the designation KV-2, before that the tank was called 'KV with a large turret'.
