Sturmgeschütz III or StuG III is a German medium 75-mm assault gun (sturmgeschütz) of the Second World War, developed on the basis of the Panzer III medium tank. It was developed as a light self-propelled artillery installation for direct fire support of infantry on the battlefield, however, it became widespread as an effective means of combating armored combat vehicles - a tank destroyer.
