T-90 is a third-generation main battle tank. Created in the late 1980s - early 1990s as a deep modernization of the T-72B tank, under the index T-72BU in order to bring the tank's combat capabilities to the level of the T-80U. In 1992, the tank was adopted for service under the index T-90.
