The Renault R35 is a French light infantry tank from World War II. Designed from 1933 and produced from 1936, the type was conceived as a light infantry support tank equipped with autonomous tank battalions that would eventually be detached into separate infantry divisions to assist them in offensive operations. For this, it was relatively well armored but slow and did not have good anti-tank capability, equipped with a short 37 mm gun. At the beginning of the war, the role of anti-tank vehicles was strengthened, which led to the development and eventual production from April 1940 of the Renault R40 subtype with a more powerful and lengthened gun.
