The Sd.Kfz.251 half-track transport vehicle was widely used by the Wehrmacht on all fronts during World War II. Equipped with a 6-cylinder Maybach petrol engine, it could reach speeds of up to 55 km/h even on difficult terrain. It was primarily used as an infantry fighting vehicle, but many versions were produced during the war to serve increasingly specialized operational roles. Half-track Sd.Kfz. 251/10 (Schützenpanzerwagen), used as a platoon command vehicle, was armed with a 37 mm PaK 36 anti-tank gun with a protective shield. Production continued until 1942, when the gun was no longer effective against more advanced and armored enemy tanks.
