Jagdpanzer IV is a medium-weight German self-propelled artillery installation of the class of tank destroyers of the Second World War. According to the departmental rubric of the Imperial Ministry of Armaments of Nazi Germany, the self-propelled gun was designated as Sd.Kfz.162. Jagdpanzer IV was created on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw tank. IV. Like most tank destroyers, the Jagdpanzer IV had a turretless design with a casemate gun mount. The machine was designed to replace the StuG III self-propelled guns. The chief inspector of the armored forces Heinz Guderian was against the new machine - because its creation diverted resources from the production of PzKpfw IV
