C1 Ariete (Italian: C1 Ariete) is an Italian main battle tank. Developed in 1984 based on the German Leopard 2 tank, the first prototype was built in 1986. It was mass-produced from 1995 to 2002. The total output was 200 units. In 2005, an improved version of the tank was presented as a prototype: reinforced modular armor and a 44-caliber gun.
