In 2006, the Italian army ordered 249 "Freccia" for a total of € 1.54 billion in the following modifications:
172 BMPs with Oto Melara Hitfist turrets armed with 25mm Oerlikon KBA automatic cannon
36 self-propelled anti-tank systems equipped with Israeli Spike missiles
20 command vehicles
21 self-propelled mortars
