The NN-65A Dolphin made its first flight on July 23, 1980, after which the machine was delivered to Texas at the Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation plant for installation of electronic equipment and testing for FAA certification.
A total of four experimental helicopters were built before the customer received the first production SA 366G1 with a larger diameter fenestron propeller in 1984.
Of the 102 helicopters purchased by the US Navy, 90 were based at 18 shore stations, including Alaska and Hawaii.
When performing search and rescue tasks, these machines interacted with НС-130Н aircraft, which also belonged to the US Navy.
