The OH-58D was a variant that introduced a more powerful four-bladed rotor engine that was much quieter than the old two-bladed unit and was complemented by a new mast sight (MMS) that allowed the operator to sneak up. peak over terrain without exposing the entire aircraft to enemy fire. The cockpit has also been updated with Multi Function Displays (MFDs), although the old analog gauges have been retained for backup purposes. Later upgrades added two gun carriage hardpoints, one on each side of the airframe, which could be fitted with Hellfire modular racks, .50cal machine guns, rocket pods, or Stinger missiles. It is called the Kiowa Warrior and has the unofficial designation AH-58D.
