It was a joint project of the English company Westland Helicopters and the French Aérospatiale. The first flight was on March 21, 1971, France participated in serial production. The semi-monocoque fuselage is an all-metal structure. The helicopter has 2 cabins, a cargo cabin and a crew cabin. For search and rescue operations, the helicopter is equipped with a winch with a lifting capacity of 300 kg. In 1986, a world speed record for helicopters (400.87 km/h) was set on a "Lynx" with special rotor blades.
