The Ki-61 Hien (Japanese: 飛燕, "Swallow") is a single-seat, single-engine, all-metal fighter jet of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. It was distinguished among other Japanese fighters by a design that made it similar to European fighters, and also had an additional reservation. During the first contacts, the Allies mistakenly believed it to be a licensed copy of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 or some Italian aircraft.
