The Soviet biplane piston fighter I-153, which was also called the "Seagull", was created in 1938 at the Polikarpov Design Bureau. It was a development of the I-15 fighter line, had a chassis that folded into the fuselage (unlike the simple chassis of the I-15) and was considered one of the most advanced biplane fighters at the time.
