F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an American carrier-based multirole fighter based on the F/A-18 Hornet. Development began in 1992 by the McDonnell Douglas company, but after its merger with Boeing, the latter acquired all rights to the aircraft. The first flight of the F/A-18E/F took place on November 29, 1995. Serial production began in 1997, for which a separate assembly line was created at the aircraft factory in St. Louis.
In 1999, the F/A-18E/F entered service with the US Navy, replacing the F-14 Tomcat and complementing the F/A-18C/D. American F/A-18E/F participated in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The only foreign country operating the Super Hornets is Australia: in 2007, it ordered 24 F/A-18Fs for its air fo
