The Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless is an American carrier-based dive bomber and reconnaissance aircraft that played a key role in World War II, especially in the Pacific. It was the main carrier-based bomber of the US Navy from 1940 until it was replaced by the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver. Despite its low speed and outdated design, the SBD Dauntless sank more Japanese ships than any other aircraft during the war, due to its reliability and efficiency.
