The A6M2 Zero Type 21, or simply "Zero", was one of the most famous Japanese fighters of World War II. It was developed and produced by Mitsubishi and used by the Japanese Air Force from the beginning of the war until its end. The A6M2 was a single-seat, low-wing monoplane with all-metal construction. It was designed as an air superiority fighter and was known for its maneuverability and excellent flight characteristics. The A6M2 was armed with two 7.7 mm (0.303 in) Type 97 machine guns mounted in the wings and two 20 mm (0.787 in) Type 99 cannons mounted in the forward fuselage. Some versions could also carry external weapons.
