"Merkava" is a series of Israeli main battle tanks produced from 1979 to the present day. There are five generations of serial tanks (Merkava 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). The fourth generation has been in service with the Israeli army since 2004, the fifth - from 2023.
Due to Israel's long armed conflicts with neighboring Arab states, tanks of the "Merkava" series managed to take part in hostilities. Campaigns in which the tank participated: First (1982) and Second (2006) Lebanon wars, Operation Immovable Rock (2014), Hamas invasion of Israel (2023).
On the basis of the Merkav IV, the Namer BMP was developed.
