The COE (CabOverEngine) tanker truck m.1939 combines the basic advantages of engineering and design with the inherent advantages of a cab-forward design. Congested city streets... legislative restrictions on overall length... increasing use of tractor trailers... are among the factors creating greater demand for COE-type trucks. In May 1938, Ford introduced the new COE truck, which gave the 134-inch chassis the same cargo space as the regular 157-inch chassis. Production of COE trucks began in the Netherlands in early 1939, and some trucks were captured by the Germans in 1940.
