The 128 mm Pak 44 L/55 anti-tank gun (Pak, (Ger.) Panzerabwehrkanone) was a German heavy anti-tank gun used during World War II. It was the result of the experience of using artillery on the Eastern Front in 1943. The German army got acquainted with the Soviet 122 mm guns there and issued a request for the creation of a similar gun.
Pak 44 performance at short to medium ranges was equal to 8.8 cm Pak 43, but 12.8 cm Pak 44 was the best in fighting tanks at long and very long distances (1800-2700+ meters), in addition, it remained effective in as a field gun when firing high-explosive shells.
