It was first used in 1942 as a medium artillery installation and served the US Army throughout World War II. It could use various types of ammunition and had a maximum range of 14,600 meters. Very durable and reliable, it showed a long service life. In fact, it was hired in the USA. The Army also used it during the Korean and Vietnam Wars until it was replaced with the more modern M198.
