RV Meteor (also known as Meteor III) is a modern German research and scientific vessel. The total length of the ship is 97.5 meters with a width of 16.5 meters and a draft of 5.61 meters. Propulsion is provided by internal combustion engines and electric motors, which allow a maximum speed of 11.5 knots. The crew usually consists of 63 people, including a maximum of 30 scientists. Meteor III was built for the German Ministry of Education and Development at the Schlichting-Werft shipyard in Travemünde.
