Scharnhorst was a German battleship, also classified as a battleship, with her keel laid down in 1935 and launched in October 1936. The battleship entered ropeway service with the German Navy (German Kriegsmarine) in January 1939. The ship was 234 meters long, 30 meters wide and had a total displacement of 38,900 tons. The maximum speed of the Scharnhorst was 31-32 knots. The main armament was 9 280 mm guns in three triple turrets, while the secondary armament was 12 150 mm guns or 14 105 mm guns.
