By 1938, Thornycroft launched the LCM-1 (Landing Craft Mechanized) boat type in English. In Britain, a new type of boat received the designation MLC (Mechanized Landing Craft - Mechanized Landing Craft). In Germany, landing craft were called MFP (Marinefährprahm - marine landing barge). In the United States, this type of boat was designated LCU (Landing Craft Utility - Auxiliary landing craft). By the beginning of the Second World War, similar boats were already used in the fleets of the leading countries of the world, the exception was the Navy of the USSR. A total of 22,492 LCVP landing craft were built for the US Navy. And 2,366 boats were delivered under Lend-Lease.
