Mogami (Japanese: 最上, after the name of a river in Yamagata Prefecture) is a Japanese cruiser, the first representative of the Mogami class to enter service.
Ordered as one of four cruisers of this type under the First Fleet Replenishment Program of 1931. Its construction was carried out by the Naval Arsenal in Kure in 1931-1935. Sea trials of the cruiser in March 1935 showed problems with the strength of the hull, and before entering service it underwent emergency repairs.
