From 1944, the Landing Craft Medium (LSM class) was used as the US Navy's amphibious assault ship in the Pacific against Japanese opponents of the war. They made up the bulk of the American naval forces that landed troops and equipment on the beaches occupied by the enemy.
By the end of the war, several LSM-class ships were sunk by kamikaze attacks, but their reputation remains legendary decades after World War II!
