The SH-60 is a naval modification of the UH-60 army helicopter for use aboard warships, developed in accordance with the US Navy's LAMPS Mk.3 (Light Airborne Multipurpose System) competitive program. The first flight of the helicopter took place in 1979 and was adopted by the US Navy in 1984. The HH-60H was developed in conjunction with the Sikorsky MH-60 Jayhawk for the US Coast Guard beginning in September 1986. Sikorsky Aircraft acted as the general contractor for the first batch of five helicopters.
