The F-100 was the United States Air Force's first supersonic fighter. It made its first flight on May 25, 1953, and the first production aircraft was built in October 1953. The Super Saber became the first fighter aircraft to achieve supersonic speed in level flight, doing so on its maiden flight on October 29, 1953. The F-100 entered service in September 1954. North American had built 2,294 F-100s before production ended in 1959. The F-100C was a version of the F-100 family.
