The Mc Donnell Douglas F-15 is a single-seat "all-weather" fighter built and designed to guarantee and maintain "air superiority". The F-15 Eagle was designed during the 1970s to be able to equip the US Air Force's flight departments with an advanced, high-performance fighter. In its evolution, represented by the "C" version, the F-15 is still widely used by the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. National Guard and the air forces of Israel, Japan and Saudi Arabia. The F-15C took an active part in the first Gulf War, guaranteeing air superiority to Coalition troops by shooting down the highest percentage of enemy aircraft. Armed with a 20mm M61 cannon it can employ a wide variety of air-to-air missiles. The two powerful Pratt & Whitney F100 afterburner engines allow the F-15C to reach speeds of Mach 2.5.
