The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was an American fighter aircraft used primarily in World War II and the Korean War. Demand for the aircraft soon exceeded Vought's production capacity, leading to Goodyear production: Corsairs built by Goodyear were designated FG. From delivery of the first prototype to the US Navy in 1940 to final delivery to the French in 1953, Vought produced 12,571 F4U Corsairs in 16 separate models, the longest production run of any piston-engine fighter in US history.
