"Grumman" F6F "Hellcat" (English Grumman F6F Hellcat, Ukrainian F6F "Hell cat") is an American carrier-based fighter produced by the Grumman airline company during World War II. Designed to replace the previous version of the F4F Wildcat fighter and counter the Japanese A6M Zero. The aircraft was the US Navy's dominant carrier-based fighter in the second part of the Pacific War, surpassing the faster F4U Corsair, which however had problems landing on an aircraft carrier. In September 1943, the F6F made its combat debut and soon became the most famous aircraft thanks to its reputation as a reliable, well-engineered naval fighter that was able to outperform the A6M "Zero" and aid in air dominance in the Pacific theater of war.
