The Vought A-7 Corsair II was developed and manufactured in the first half of the 1960s in response to a request from the United States. The Navy would receive a new carrier-based attack aircraft capable of replacing the piston-powered A-1 Skyraiders and A-4 Skyhawk aircraft. Directly developed on the basis of the Vought F-8 Crusader airframe, the first A-7 entered service in 1965.
