The Bailey Bridge was built during the Second World War in Great Britain and was used on a very large scale by the Allied forces between 1943 and 1945. This bridge was characterized by a very simple design consisting of ready-made elements (prefabricated elements) "assembled" immediately before its use, good strength and relatively low cost of production. It could also be mounted manually, without the use of heavy equipment, which greatly facilitated its operation. Another advantage of the bridge was that it could carry M3 Lee and M4 Sherman medium tanks. Its author and chief designer was Donald Bailey, from whom the name of this type of bridge came.
