Endeavor was built in June 1764 at Thomas Fishburn's wharf under the name Earl Of Pembroke, with a displacement of 368 tons and the following specifications: 29 m length, 24.79 m keel and 8.89 m maximum beam. Its shape was distinguished by a rounded nose and a flat stern with cross-shaped rigging. The vessel was intended for the transportation of coal. On April 5, 1768, the ship was registered under the name Endeavor as belonging to the Royal Armada and intended for scientific purposes.
