Beginning in the middle of World War II, Allied tank designs were constantly improved and featured greater firepower and armor protection. Under these conditions, the German army became increasingly dependent on reckless tank destroyers armed with a powerful cannon on a limited rotation mount. Among them was the Hetzer, a compact tank destroyer based on a 38-ton Czech-made tank chassis that had 60mm sloped frontal armor and a 75mm main gun. Entering service in July 1944, the Hetzer's low silhouette and powerful armament made it a worthy opponent on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.
