The German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a single-engine piston low-wing aircraft that became one of the main aircraft of the Luftwaffe during World War II. The aircraft was designed by Wilhelm Messerschmitt and Robert Lusser and was one of the first real fighters of its time, of all-metal construction. It was actively used from 1937 during the Spanish Civil War and remained in service until the end of the war in 1945.
