The armored locomotive PR-43 was developed in the USSR in mid-July 1943 for the armored trains of the Red Army of the new type BP-43.
As the manufacture of PR-43, steam locomotives of the Ov or OP type with a 4-axle tender, which were sheathed with armor plates, were used.
