The most massive and famous tank in world history was the Soviet T-34. It was developed in the Design Bureau of the Kharkov Plant No. 183 under the direction of M.I. Koshkin.

Serial production began in 1940. It was the first mass-produced medium tank with anti-ballistic armor, a powerful diesel engine and a long-barreled 76.2 mm gun. Until the end of 1941, it was the best tank in the world.

A modification with an improved hexagonal cast turret, called the "nut", was produced from 1942.
