5 cm FlaK 41 was a 50 mm anti-aircraft gun designed to protect the intermediate zone above the range of a light 37 mm gun, but below the ceiling of heavy guns 75 mm and above.
The development of the pistol, although started in 1936, was slow and the contract with Rheinmetall-Borsig was not awarded until 1940.
The gun was produced in two models, which were used to protect important industrial facilities.
Neither of these two options was successful, and both had the same disadvantages.
The traverse rate was too slow for fast moving targets and the gun was not powerful enough, although the propellant produced a powerful shot capable of blinding the sight even in broad daylight.
