Description
The first Soviet jet intercontinental passenger aircraft was the Il-62, developed by S.V. Ilyushin. The prototype took off on January 2, 1963. Serial production began in 1966. Since 1973, an improved modification of the Il-62M aircraft with new engines and a maximum flight range of over 11,000 km was put into operation. In total, up to 2004, 190 Il-62M aircraft were produced.
Il-62 has been the flagship of Aeroflot for several decades. They were actively supplied to the countries of the socialist camp.
A number of Il-62M aircraft are still in operation.
