Flak 40 is a German heavy 128 mm anti-aircraft gun from World War II. The first prototype guns were created in 1937, and in 1942 mass production began, culminating in the production of about 600 guns of this type.
The Flak 40 was developed as part of a Rheinmetall project that dates back to 1936, a new heavy anti-aircraft gun. Since the bombing of German cities in 1937-1941 was not perceived, work on the Flak 40 was a very low priority. This fact changed in 1942, which led to the introduction of a new gun into production. Initially, it was planned to create a mobile version of Flak 40, but it was quickly transferred to the production of only a stationary version, which was installed in fortified a
