The Sacramento class vessels are the largest multi-purpose supply transports in the world. They are designed to provide carrier strike group ships with fuel, ammunition and food, combining the functions of supply transport, refueling tanker, ammunition transport and bulk carrier. Due to the high cost, only four of the five planned ships were built.
