The H-21 Shawnee is known for its "flying banana" nickname, which comes from the upward curve of the rear fuselage. The fuselage, designed in such an original way, actually allowed the use of two powerful rotors. This and its rugged aerodynamic design have made the H-21 a true workhorse, capable of performing the most demanding transport missions in often challenging conditions. Widely used by the US Army beginning in the first half of the 1950s, it was also used by the US Army in the Vietnam theater for troop transport and tactical material transport since 1961.
