The CH-47 Chinook, the workhorse of the US Army, is manufactured by Boeing Vertol. The Chinook has served as the main engine of the U.S. Army and other militaries for decades. Its primary missions include transporting troops, artillery, ammunition, fuel, water, barrier materials, supplies and equipment to the battlefield. Other missions include medical evacuation, aircraft recovery, firefighting, parachute drops, heavy construction, disaster relief, and search and rescue.
The Chinook's performance was continually improved through successive product improvements, from the CH-47A to the CH-47D. Continuous product development has allowed the Chinook's lifting capacity to more than double since its inception.
