HEMTT M984 is a tow truck, 8 x 8, high mobility tactical heavy duty truck tow truck, heavy duty crane and winch. It provides heavy wheel recovery and crane/towing/maintenance lift) of 10-ton and lighter tactical wheeled vehicles. Its lift-and-tow system can repair damaged vehicles in two to three minutes.
The M984 tow truck is the only HEMTT variant that was produced in the A1 configuration, which resulted in the replacement of the rescue crane and retrieval system between the A0 and A1 configurations. The current model is the M984A4.
