T-55 (Object 155) is a medium tank created in KB-60 as a modernization of the T-54 for operations in conditions of nuclear weapons. Adopted for service with the Soviet Army in May 1958.
Western researchers often do not separate the T-54 and T-55, calling them by the common name T-54/55, since the tanks are very similar to each other.
