The helicopter was widely used by the Marine Corps starting in 1957 and immediately proved itself to be reliable and durable. It could carry up to 16 fully equipped people or 1,300 kg of cargo. Thanks to the Wright R-1820 Cyclone piston engine, it could reach a speed of 200 km/h. Its operational characteristics accelerated its spread. The army version with the initials H-34 was armed with 7.62-mm machine guns M60, which was widely used in the first stage of the war in Vietnam.
